Katy Perry and Russell Brand Wed in Multi-Day Celebration

In a very private and spiritual ceremony in India on Saturday, October 23, actor, Russell Brand and singer, Katy Perry tied the knot!

The two exchanged vows at the Aman-i-Khas resort, where a red carpet rolled out for two elephants named Mala and Laxmi. Brand, in honor of a traditional wedding procession known as the “bharat,” where the bridegroom walks to the spot where the bride awaits, rode one of the elephants to meet Katy.

Although the groom typically rides a white horse in a traditional bharat, an elephant symbolizes an even grander and more magnificent entrance. The trees lining the entrance of the venue also lit up with white and gold lights as Brand arrived.

Acrobats and jugglers in Indian outfits greeted guests as the sound of several Indian instruments filled the resort, including the santoor, the table, the sitar and kettledrums. Hotel guests also heard Sacred Vedic chanting and occasional bursts of applause and cheering from deep inside the resort, accompanied by the singing of traditional Rajasthani folk musicians.

A Christian minister and longtime friend of Kate Hudson’s family performed the ceremony, attended by close family and friends of the couple, while a backdrop of the countryside of Northern India created majestic and inspirational scenery.

As a part of their multi-day celebration, the newlywed couple later treated guests to song and dance performances as well as shopping and safaris.
